This was on the first, but we’ve been too busy celebrating to actually tell anyone about it. We started off with a family party two days before, because my sister and her family from the east coast were here. We celebrated my nephew’s birthday, too, since his is on July 28. It was lots of fun. We had a family dinner on the actual day, and then a friends and family party the Sunday after her birthday – the day it was 93 degrees. We had that party at a local park and played games, including California snowballs. We got this one from Michael’s childhood – stuff socks with stuffing, wet them, and have the kids throw them at each other. This was an excellent cooling-off game for many warm kids – and some adults. Especially since we had to use ice water from the cooler to put in the bucket for the snowballs.
Hannah had asked for a chocolate layer cake of the kind I made for Michael last year. I had planned on making it. But I didn’t, because 93 degrees, no air conditioning, and oven use are not compatible. So Whole Foods provided us with a most delicious vegan chocolate layer cake. They have air conditioning.
